CERTIFICATE IN FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING (CIFA)
What is CIFA?
The Certificate in Financial Accounting (CIFA) is a very good beginner’s course that prepares one for clerical accounting work usually carried out by Accounts Assistants. This is also a stepping stone to the Accounting Technician programme and many other programmes that require some accounting skills. This programme is recognised globally.
Subjects.
The course comprises four (4) papers.
Candidates can complete the course in 6 months. We encourage candidates to sit all the 4 papers at first sitting.
Maximum period candidates are given to complete the course is four consecutive sittings.

Entry Requirements
Minimum entry qualification is the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent.
Pass Mark
The pass mark for all papers is 50%. The Institute uses a Pass or Fail grading system.
Applicable Exemptions
Candidates who hold other certificates, diplomas and degree’s in other fields will be exempted some papers. To know the exemptions applicable to you please click here or contact us icam@icam.mw
How to Register
To register for the certificate in financial accounting programme, you will need to submit the following documents:
- A completed registration form. Click here to download registration form.
- A deposit slip for registration fees. Click here for a rate card.
- 2 passport photos for ID production.
- Copies of all your certificates, and transcripts including your MSCE or its equivalent.
NOTE: Registration for those who would like to sit for the June examination closes on 28th February, whilst for the December examination, deadline is 31st August. Check the planner
Examinations
Examinations are administered twice a year early June and early December. Closing date for receipt of examination fees for the June examinations is 31st March, whilst for December examinations is 30th September.
Candidates are supposed to complete an examination entry form (EEF) and attach a proof of payment for examination fees to book for examinations. The EEF should be hand delivered at ICAM offices in Blantyre or Lilongwe or sent through post to ICAM, P.O Box 1, Blantyre or via email to icam@icam.mw or student@icam.mw
Examination Notice to Candidates
Early May and early November Notices to candidates for June examinations and December examinations respectively are sent to candidates through the student portal. Candidates should check the correctness of details on the notice like their registration number, examination papers they intend to write, and examination number. If the information is incorrect kindly contact us on icam@icam.mw or WhatsApp 0880 895 810.
You will be required to avail yourself at the examination centre on the date, time and venue prescribed on the Notice to candidates. Bring with you a Printed Notice to candidates, ICAM identity Card, and other materials that will aid you to write examinations.
Release of Results
Examination results are released in early August and early February for June and December examinations respectively.
