ICAM 2025 ANNUAL LAKESHORE CONFERENCE CHARITY GOLF: SWINGING FOR A CAUSE

Mangochi, Malawi – August 26, 2025 – The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM) has once again demonstrated that its commitment to national development extends far beyond the boardroom and into the heart of local communities. The highly successful 2025 Annual Lakeshore Conference, held from the 21st to the 23rd of August at Sun n’ Sand Hotel, culminated in a powerful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative: a charity golf tournament that raised an impressive MK15 million for the Nkope Health Centre in Mangochi.

Themed “From Awareness to Action: Catalysing Malawi’s Economic Resilience and Sustainable Growth,” the conference lived up to its name by translating three days of high-level economic discourse into tangible, life-changing action for a critical healthcare facility.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM) successfully organised a Charity Golf Tournament at Mlambe Golf Course on Saturday, 23rd August 2025, to raise  MK15 million for the purchase of medical equipment for Nkope Health Centre in Mangochi, a facility operating under the direct supervision of St Luke’s Hospital.

The charity golf initiative was held under the theme: “Swing for Medical Equipment” with a call to action: “Join ICAM in making a difference to Nkope Health Centre’s medical equipment availability.” The Charity Golf event saw enthusiastic participation from conference attendees and esteemed guests, all eager to support a noble cause.

It brought together corporate teams, individual golfers, and well-wishers in a spirit of camaraderie and giving. Teams sponsored by NICO General, Hail & Cotton, and Wyson Kayira & Co. played a pivotal role in making the initiative a resounding success by fielding golfers and donating generously to the cause.

The tournament adopted the Stableford-2BBB format with a shot1gun start, adding excitement and energy to the afternoon of golf.

The highlight of the CSR activity was the symbolic presentation of an MK15 million cheque. On behalf of ICAM and its members, CA. Danie Jere (ICAM President) and CA. Noel Zigowa (ICAM CEO) handed over the donation to Winasi David Boma (Chief Hospital Administrator, St Luke’s Hospital). He was accompanied by a clinician from Nkope Health Centre, a nurse-midwife, and a Principal Nursing Officer from St Luke’s Hospital, representing the direct beneficiaries of the gesture

In his remarks, CA. Danie Jere stated, “As chartered accountants, our duty is to create value and foster sustainable growth. Today, that growth is not just economic; it is about the health and well-being of our communities. This MK15 million represents our commitment to translating the awareness we’ve built this week into direct, meaningful action. We are immensely proud to support the vital work of the healthcare professionals at Nkope.”

Mr. Winasi David Boma expressed profound gratitude, highlighting the transformative impact the new medical equipment will have. “Nkope Health Centre serves a large population, and reliable medical equipment is the backbone of our service delivery. This incredibly generous donation from ICAM and its partners will significantly enhance our diagnostic and treatment capabilities, directly improving maternal health, child welfare, and overall patient outcomes. We are deeply thankful for this partnership.”
