What is a Technician Diploma in Accounting (TECH)?

 

The Technician diploma in accounting is the most sought-after qualification that prepares personnel who provide vital support to the work of middle management accounting officers. It is also a steppingstone to the Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification. The demand for the services of accountants has been growing rapidly in the recent past. It is therefore very evident that the prospects of those choosing accountancy as a career are excellent.

 

Graduates of ICAM have gained wide recognition both nationally and internationally. This position has been achieved by ICAM’s relentless pursuance of quality and excellence. There is therefore no compromise. The candidates are therefore required to achieve the highest standard of competence in the examinations. The candidates should approach ICAM’s programmes with dedication and commitment.

 

SUBJECTS

The course comprises Twelve (12) papers.

 

 

Candidates can complete the course in 18 months. We encourage candidates to sit 4 papers per session. Candidates should first pass Accounting 1 before they can attempt Accounting 2.

 

Candidates who complete the ICAM Technician programme are eligible for registration into the Chartered Accountant Malawi (CA (M)) programme at the Knowledge Level where they get exemptions in Accounting Framework, Management Information, Legal Framework and Principles of Taxation.

 

The ICAM diploma enables one to register with the Malawi Accountants Board (MAB) as a Diplomate member after completing the required 250 days of practical training.

 

Candidates are given a maximum period of twenty (20) consecutive sittings to complete the programme.

Entry Requirements

Minimum entry qualification is the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent or a Certificate in Financial Accounting (CIFA).

 

Pass Mark

The pass mark for all papers is 50%. The Institute uses a Pass or Fail grading system.

 

Applicable Exemptions

Candidates who hold certificates, diplomas, degrees and partial qualifications in accounting or other disciplines will be exempted some papers. To know the exemptions applicable to you please check here or contact us icam@icam.mw

 

Those with a certificate in financial accounting are exempted Accounting 1 and Communication.

 

How to Register

To register for the technician diploma in accounting programme, you will need to submit the following documents:

  • A completed registration form. Click here to download registration form.
  • A deposit slip for registration fees. Click here for a rate card.
  • 2 passport photos for ID production.
  • Copies of all your certificates, and transcripts including your MSCE or its equivalent.

 

NOTE: Registration for those who would like to sit for the June examination closes on 28th February, whilst for the December examination, deadline is 31st August. Check the planner

 

Examinations

Examinations are administered twice a year early June and early December. Closing date for receipt of examination fees for the June examinations is 31st March, whilst for December examinations is 30th September.

 

Candidates are supposed to complete an examination entry form (EEF) and attach a proof of payment for examination fees to book for examinations. The EEF should be hand delivered at ICAM offices in Blantyre or Lilongwe or sent through post to ICAM, P.O Box 1, Blantyre or via email to icam@icam.mw or student@icam.mw

 

 

Examination Notice to Candidates

Early May and early November Notices to candidates for June examinations and December examinations respectively are sent to candidates through the student portal. Candidates should check the correctness of details on the notice like their registration number, examination papers they intend to write, and examination number. If the information is incorrect kindly contact us on icam@icam.mw or WhatsApp 0880 895 810.

 

You will be required to avail yourself at the examination centre on the date, time and venue prescribed on the Notice to candidates. Bring with you a Printed Notice to candidates, ICAM identity Card, and other materials that will aid you to write examinations.

 

Release of Results

Examination results are released in early August and early February for June and December examinations respectively.
