ICAM elects new leadership at 2024 Annual Lakeshore Conference

During the 2024 ICAM Annual Lakeshore Conference, held from 19th to 21st September at Sun n Sand Hotel, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM) elected new leaders for the next two years.

One of the conference’s major highlights was the election of a new President and Vice President, marking the beginning of a new chapter in ICAM’s leadership.

As the term of outgoing President CA. Moffat Ngalande came to a close, the ICAM Council convened to elect a new President. The council selected CA. Daniel Jere, who had served as Vice President during Ngalande’s tenure, to take on the mantle of leadership for the 2024-2026 term.

Jere, the Chief Financial Officer of National Bank of Malawi Plc., brings with him vast experience from the financial sector and a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the accounting profession. His elevation to President reflects his dedication to the institute and his commitment to fostering growth within the profession.
  3. Macdonald Kamoto- new ICAM Vice President

In addition to electing a new President, the ICAM Council also voted for a new Vice President. Practicing council member CA. McDonald Kamoto, a Partner at Ernst & Young (EY), was elected to serve in the role.

  1. Kamoto’s extensive background in audit and advisory services, combined with his leadership experience at EY, positions him as a strong advocate for the accountancy profession in Malawi.

The election of CA. Jere and CA. Kamoto, both respected figures within the accounting fraternity, promises continuity in ICAM’s strategic direction. As former council members, they are well-versed in the institute’s operations, ensuring a seamless transition and sustained momentum in the initiatives set forth by their predecessors.

Under their leadership, ICAM is expected to continue its trajectory of growth, enhancing its role as a key player in Malawi’s economic development. Their expertise will be instrumental in navigating the economic uncertainties the country faces, aligning with the conference theme focused on resilience and strategic growth.

ICAM’s Council and Secretariat congratulates the newly elected President and Vice President, expressing confidence in their ability to provide professional and inspirational guidance over the next two years. Their leadership will play a crucial role in advancing the accountancy profession in Malawi, further positioning ICAM as a thought leader in the financial sector.

As CA. Jere takes the helm of ICAM, and CA. Kamoto steps into his new role as Vice President, the institute looks ahead to a future of innovation, professional excellence, and strengthened partnerships within Malawi’s business community. The leadership team will be expected to build on the successes of their predecessors while steering the organization through a rapidly evolving economic landscape.

With this new leadership, ICAM is poised to continue its mission of promoting and advancing the accountancy profession in Malawi, ensuring that accountants remain key contributors to the nation’s economic recovery and sustainable growth.
