The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM) has once again demonstrated its commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) by making a significant contribution to the education sector.
Symbolic cheque presentation by ICAM President
On 21st September 2024, ICAM President presented a symbolic cheque of MK10 million to the Member of Parliament for Mangochi-Monkey Bay Constituency, Hon. Ralph Jooma, along with officials from the South East Education Division and the Headmaster of Ntonda Community Day Secondary School (CDSS). This generous donation will go towards the purchase of 150 desks for Ntonda CDSS, enhancing the learning environment for students.
ICAM’s donation was made as part of its ongoing effort to support the government of Malawi in improving the education system. The institution recognizes that access to quality education is crucial for national development, and providing students with basic necessities like desks is a critical component of this mission. Speaking at the cheque presentation ceremony, the ICAM President emphasized that the organization is proud to play a role in the education of future leaders, including those who may one day join the accountancy profession.
“As ICAM, we see education as a cornerstone of Malawi’s development, and we are aware that some of the students from Ntonda CDSS could become our future professional accountants. Therefore, it is fitting for us to take a leading role in initiatives like this, where we can directly contribute to improving their learning environment,” the ICAM President said.

The MK10 million donation was the result of a charity golf event held at Mlambe Golf Course on the same day. The event brought together a host of well-known golfers from across the country, along with ICAM members who are also golfing enthusiasts. It was a day filled with camaraderie and philanthropy, as participants teed off with the common goal of raising funds for a worthy cause.

Among the many corporate sponsors that supported the charity golf event was NICO General, which made a substantial contribution toward achieving the MK10 million target. Their support, along with that of other organizations and individual participants, underscored the unity and generosity within Malawi’s corporate and professional sectors.

The presentation of the donation not only marks a significant investment in the education of Ntonda CDSS students but also reinforces ICAM’s dedication to fostering a brighter future for the youth of Malawi. With the 150 new desks, students will have a more comfortable and conducive learning environment, which is expected to positively impact their academic performance and overall experience at the school.
In his remarks, Hon. Ralph Jooma expressed his deep appreciation to ICAM for the timely donation, noting that the lack of desks at Ntonda CDSS has been a longstanding challenge. “This donation will go a long way in addressing the dire need for desks at our school. It is partnerships like these that bring tangible improvements to our community, and we are incredibly grateful to ICAM for this thoughtful gesture,” he said.
The Headmaster of Ntonda CDSS echoed similar sentiments, stating that the desks will not only ease the burden of students sitting on the floor but will also boost their morale and academic engagement.
The success of the charity golf event and the subsequent donation highlights ICAM’s broader vision of not just shaping the accountancy profession in Malawi but also playing an active role in societal development. Through initiatives like these, ICAM continues to set a high standard for corporate responsibility, showing that the power of collaboration can lead to meaningful changes in communities.
